Tap any whistle card at the top of the screen to select it, then press the large blow button in the middle of the screen. The sound plays immediately.
Tap the blow button again while sound is playing — it acts as a stop button. If repeat mode is on, this stops the entire cycle.
Toggle the Repeat Cycle switch in the controls section. When enabled, Whistle will play your selected pattern, pause for the Pause Between Cycles duration, then play again — looping continuously until you tap stop.
The "Pause Between Cycles" slider appears when Repeat is on, letting you control how long the app waits between each full pattern cycle.
Single — one blast. Double — two blasts with a gap between them. Triple — three blasts. Rapid — five quick blasts in fast succession.
When a multi-blast pattern is selected, a "Gap Between Blasts" slider appears so you can control the spacing between each individual blast.
Yes — use the Volume slider in the controls section. This controls Whistle's output level independently from your device volume. Your device volume also affects the final loudness, so for maximum volume raise both.
Try these steps in order:
1. Check your device volume — make sure it's turned up.
2. On iPhone: Whistle plays even in silent mode, but check that the app wasn't paused by a phone call or other interruption. Tap stop, then blow again.
3. Force-quit the app and reopen it.
4. Restart your device.
If none of these work, please contact us using the form below.
Yes — on iPhone, Whistle overrides the silent mode switch so sounds play regardless. This is intentional; a whistle you can't blow in an emergency isn't useful.
On Android, audio behavior is controlled by your media volume, not a mute switch.
Yes. Whistle uses background audio, so sound will continue if you switch apps or lock your screen. This is especially useful with Repeat Cycle enabled.
Not broken — by design. The Dog Whistle mode doesn't play anything, not even something your dog can hear. It's a novelty/humor feature. If your dog hears it, get their ears checked!
The visual animation and pattern timing still play out normally, so you can see that the "blast" is happening even if you can't hear it.
No. Whistle collects no personal information, no usage data, and no analytics. There is no account system, no network connection required, and nothing is ever transmitted from the app. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
No. Whistle only plays sounds — it does not record audio, and it does not request microphone access. The app cannot hear you.
